Mercy Mas
Dec 12, 1935 — Aug 5, 2026
In Loving Memory of Mercy Mas
Mercy Mas was born December 12, 1935, in Havana, Cuba. She passed away at the age of 90.
She is survived by her only daughter, Gloria Mas, an accomplished attorney, and her two granddaughters, Marisa, a veterinary cardiologist, and Alexandra, who is completing her law degree next year.
In 1961, Mercy and her husband, Jose, left everything behind in Cuba to come to the United States in search of a better life and a brighter future.
Jose was a successful professor at Chico State, and Mercy was the queen of retail in downtown Chico. She worked at Betty’s on Broadway, Cotton Party, Kirk’s Jewelry, Zucchini and Vine, and many other local stores. Anyone who spent time downtown knew Mercy.
Mercy was beautiful inside and out. She was smart, sweet, generous, and kindhearted. She had a warmth and presence that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her love for her family and the life she built will forever be remembered.
The world has suffered a great loss in her absence, but heaven has gained so much. Mercy’s memory will live on through her daughter, her granddaughters, and all those whose lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
