Shirley Ann Flom Lydon

July 3, 1930 – September 2, 2026

Shirley Ann Flom Lydon passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born on July 3, 1930, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She later moved to California and graduated from Inglewood High School in 1948. On June 11, 1949, Shirley married Clarence E. Lydon. She devoted most of her life to caring for their home and raising their family. Over the years, she also held several part-time jobs, including positions at Montgomery Ward and the Chico State BMU cafeteria, as well as offering food samples at Costco. Shirley was known for her spunky personality, her love of dancing, and her fondness for Elvis. To Clarence’s nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as “Auntie Hootie.” Her warmth, humor, and lively spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In retirement, Shirley and Clarence enjoyed traveling with Seniors in Retirement and CARD. Some of their most memorable adventures included cruises through the Panama Canal and to Alaska. Shirley generously volunteered at Enloe Medical Center for 30 years. She also had a special love for cats and was a supporter of the Chico Cat Coalition. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Clarice Reutlinger; her sons, Keith Lydon (Robi) and Kirk Lydon (Yvonne); her grandchildren, Brian Reutlinger (Liz), Michelle Reutlinger, Taylor Lydon, and Carly Riggs (Josh); her step-grandchildren, Blaine Allen (Lacy) and Dana Allen; Nathan (Amrita) Allen; six great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and many cherished extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Clarence Lydon; her son, Kelly Lydon, who passed away just 15 days before her; her favorite son-in-law, Jim Reutlinger; and her beloved sister, Darlene Murray. At Shirley’s request, there will be no services. Shirley and Kelly will be laid to rest together in a private interment. Memorial donations may be made to the Chico Cat Coalition.
