Thelma Glatt
d. Jan 1, 2001
THELMA JEAN GLATT Thelma passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2012, in Chico, CA. She was born in San Francisco, CA on April 7, 1922. Thelma graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1939. In 1944, on Palm Sunday, she married Leroy Glatt (a decorated WWII Veteran), who was her devoted husband of 55 years until he predeceased her in 1999. Thelma and Leroy were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Patty and lived a very modest life in El Sobrante, CA for 50 years. Thelma enjoyed gardening, knitting, and was an avid reader. She also was a loyal SF Giants and 49er's fan. However, what brought her the most pleasure were times with her loving daughter, whether it was a luncheon or one of many short trips with Patty throughout California. Thelma grew to be an unabashed advocate of elementary teachers. She learned through her daughter's efforts the time and energy the noble profession of "teacher" requires. In 2000, Thelma decided a move to Chico was best so she could be closer to her daughter. Thelma had an outgoing personality and cherished her dear friends whom she came to know and love here in Chico. Nevertheless, she never forgot those in the Bay Area who were dear to her heart. As one of her closest friends put it, "Thelma lived her life as she wanted and felt at peace in so doing." How many of us are fortunate enough to say that? Thelma is survived by her daughter, Patricia E. Brown and her son-in-law, Steven E. Brown, both of Chico. Interment will take place in Grass Valley, CA with a private family celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. Thelma's family would like to thank the residents and employees of The Courtyard, past and present, who made her life especially enjoyable during the final months she was with us. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests one to consider a donation to "The Friends of the Library, Chico Branch" in Thelma's name.
