Velma Brandt
d. Jan 1, 2001
A gathering of friends and family will be held for Velma Mae Brandt, 92 of Chico, on Saturday, February 27, 2010. She died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in Durham.
Velma was born of January 1, 1918 to Asa and Mabel Peddicord in Mitchell, SD. At the age of five, Velma moved with her family to Springfield, Oregon and resided there until moving to Durham when she was a sophomore in high school. Velma graduated from Durham High School in 1935 and married her lifetime love, George I. Brandt in 1936. Velma will be greatly missed as she was the center of her family, a wonderful, warm, loving mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She was a homemaker when her four children were young, involved in school, sports, and organizations. After her children were grown, Velma went to work for the Butte County Welfare Dept. and worked there until her retirement. She enjoyed working at the Silver Dollar Fair entry office for many years.
Velma and George had a wonderful retirement and spent many years traveling the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico. They spent many winters in Desert Hot Springs, making many good friends there. Velma and George were members of the Oroville Good Sams Travel Club and charter members of the Durham Good Sams.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Edwards of Chico, Judith D. Brandt of Durham; daughter-in-laws, Claudia Brandt and Christi Brandt, both of Durham; eight grandchildren, Ron (Andrea) Brandt of Los Banos, Robin Hayes of Durham, Kelly (Brian) Nokelby of Chico, Kimberly (Tom) Bridges of Reno, NV, Michael (Lisa) Brandt of Reno, NV, Karen (Ray) Warner of Reno, NV, Kristopher (Mary) Frazier of Portola, Kevin (Sherrie) Frazier of Chico; 11 great-grandchildren, Travis (Amber) Hayes, Holly and Benjamin Nokelby, Georgina and Everett Brandt, William, Daniel and Robbie Warner, Julie and Kaylee Frazier and Karson Frazier.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2001; sons, Donald I. Brandt in 2005, Richard C. Brandt in 2001 and her sister, Lorraine Peddicord in 2003.
