VIRGINIA LEE WERNETTE There will be a Celebration of the life of Virginia Lee Wernete Saturday November 22, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home. Virginia passed October 31, 2014 here in Chico at the age 82. Vickie recently moved to Chico 2 years ago after living 40 years in Lafayette, CA. Virginia was born in Blythe, CA to parents Lloyd Denver and Ilah Casey. The family were farmers and raised champion Thoroughbred race horses. During the war the family swam their horses across the Colorado River so as not to have General Patton conscript the horses for the war effort. Virginia demonstrated her tough Arkansas heritage by surviving an abusive childhood and abusive marriages. She finally married a kind man, Robert Wernette, who she was married to for over 40 years. Virginia had a son ,Neville "Butch" Suits from her first marriage, Mother and son had a special bond and their love and devotion to each other was unequaled. Virginia was quite successful raising pure-bred Siamese show cats. She delighted in having the club over to the Lafayette house for meetings and to have some of her special punch. Virginia then went onto be involved with breeding and showing Arabian horses. Nothing delighted her more than to be present for one of the mares to foal. Her horses captured many of the breeds top honors at Scottsdale, Canada, and the Regional level . Virginia was a kind and giving person, she mentored many people that came into her life. She is survived by her nephews, and nieces, her horses and Boo the cat. Viginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wernette in 2007, her brothers Lloyd Jr., Earl, and Thomas, and her son Eugene Nevelle "Butch" Suits in 2012.
