Agnes Sylvia Mclean-Galyon
Sep 16, 1920 — Dec 2, 2013
Agnes S. (Pat) McLean-Galyon September 16, 1920—December 2, 2013 Pat was born in Silverton, Oregon, to Rose and Otto Sorenson. Hers was a happy, imagination-filled childhood. She and her two sisters, Edna and Vera, had many adventures in the woods, on the farm, and at the Wildwood Golf Course, where their dad worked. These adventures were often woven into the bedtime stories she told her five daughters. Pat’s December 7, 1940, marriage to James Kenneth (Ken) McLean lasted 53, years until his death December 8, 1993. Theirs was a strong marriage that met many challenges over the years. On their first anniversary, Pearl Harbor was bombed and Ken shipped out to the Pacific front. He somehow arranged to have yellow roses delivered each anniversary until their reunion at the war’s end. While raising her five daughters, Pat had a career as a bookkeeper and personnel manager—her Comptometer could often be heard late into the night. She was honored as an ABWA Business Woman of the Year in 1976, nominated by Portland’s Sheraton Hotel for her work as Personnel Director. When Pat retired from the hotel, she and Ken moved to Molalla to build the home they would enjoy for the rest of their lives, a magical place where family and friends often gathered. They named it Shady Dell Farm for the herds of stuffed animals Pat made for her grandchildren and many fundraisers. Pat and Ken lived lives of service, volunteering wherever they lived. They served many years through Eastern Star, first with Portland’s Sunrise Chapter, then with Molalla’s Orchid Chapter. After Ken’s death, Pat stepped into his position on the Shady Dell Water District. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Molalla Adult Center, United Methodist Women’s Group, Molalla’s Lions Club and Kiwaniannes, among others. Pat and Ken were best friends with their one-time neighbors, Betty and Ray Galyon. Theirs was a fun and strong friendship that included several trips together and gatherings with both families. Predeceased by their spouses, Pat and Ray married in 1996 and had three lovely years together before his death in 1999. Pat’s family was her greatest joy, and all were blessed to have her as a role model. She is survived by her brother, Ralph Busch, her five daughters—Marilyn McDonald (Bob Tidwell), Carol Sutter (Dennis), Shelly Pederson (Jim), Cheryl McLean (Clint Brown), Lori Forestelle (Tom, predeceased); seven grandchildren—Troy Sutter, Tammy Mazelin, Laura Pederson, Judd McDonald, Travis McDonald, B.J. Anderson and Cassidy Brown; and 14 great-grandchildren—Alec, Nathan, Eric, Jonathon, London, Ty, Jaden, Stuart, Cooper, Bryce, Kaden, Kameron, Olivia and Enzo. She is also survived by Ray’s daughters, Jeanne Grote and Lona Galyon, and their families. A memorial service will be held December 15 at 3:00 p.m., United Methodist Church, Molalla. Arrangements entrusted to Molalla Funeral Chapel.
