Carroll Leonard Forbis
Sep 25, 1922 — Feb 14, 2013
Carroll joined his beloved Millie on February 14, 2013. He passed knowing that he was very much loved by his family and friend. He will be greatly missed, always valued and never forgotten. Carroll was born on September 25, 1922 to William and Orpha Forbis in North Plains, Oregon where he spent his childhood and teenage years. Carroll excelled at baseball, so much that he was the first freshman in 43 years to make the Varsity team. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball throughout the rest of his life. Carroll joined the US Navy in 1942 and served through 1946. He served on the USS Hancock and USS Mindoro, proudly earning five commendations medals for his service While on a train ride headed to San Diego, California, he met his future wife, Mildred Ruth Forbis. They married in December 1945 and maintained a marriage of 63 years until Millie’s passing in May of 2008. They were blessed with four children in the early years of their marriage. Cathy, Bill, Mary and David all continue to survive him. Carroll and Mille moved to the Portland area where Carroll began his long successful career as a respected and hardworking superintendent in the construction business. This career took Carroll and Millie all across the Northwest including Alaska. Carroll was an avid and usually successful sportsman. He enjoyed hunting with Millie, her father and brother and still could detail those most memorable times as if they were just yesterday. After his retirement in 1981, he focused much of his outdoor time on fishing and helping his family with construction projects. Once the construction projects were complete, Carroll was all about steelhead fishing! He fished roughly three times a week and always shared his catch with whomever he could. He especially enjoyed the times when his sons could go with him. Carroll is also survived and loved by his grandchildren; Michelle (Jeff) Cook, Richard Robinson, Jaime (Bryan) Wilson, Lindsay (Ben) Prather, Mat (Missy) Forbis, Brandon Forbis, Malia-Rose, Launie and Kei Forbis. His great grandchildren include Clay, Cole and Dylan McCarty, Caleb and Eli Wilson, Mason, Marshall, Leo and Brayden Forbis. Carroll is also survived by family members Virginia Davenport, Roberta Marts and Dale McLouth. Special “Thanks” go out to the caring staff of the Pheasant Pointe Assisted Living Center Where Carroll spent the last years of his life. Carroll was not only cared for, but he was loved by his care giving family. Bristol Hospice brought love, care, comfort, spirituality and compassion in Carroll’s last days. Carroll will be laid to rest beside his beloved Millie in this closing chapter of his life. At his request, his burial will be a graveside only. The Graveside service will be held at the Russellville Cemetery on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 10 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Molalla Funeral Chapel.
