Cheryl Sue Boyce

Jul 2, 1944 — Sep 16, 2017

Cherie Boyce passed away peacefully at her home on September 16, 2017 with her family by her side. Cherie fought a long and courageous battle against liver and kidney disease which resulted from a genetic condition known as Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Cherie was born on 7/2/1944 in Ogden Utah to Dennis and Eula Wells. Before she turned one, Cherie relocated with her parents to Portland, Oregon. Her only sibling, Diane Anderson, was born 13 months after her. The two girls remained very close all their lives. Cherie attended Chief Joseph and Peninsula grade schools. She graduated from Beaverton High School in 1962. Cherie met Tim Boyce on a blind date, and they married on September 19, 1964. Cherie spent nearly her entire working life of forty years in the insurance industry. She started working for her mother, Eula Wells, at Peninsula Insurance (then, in St. Johns, OR) and then went on to run her husband Tim's Farmers agency. She ran her own agency in Beaverton for a time and then merged that agency into Peninsula which had relocated to Cedar Mills. Eventually Cherie and Tim bought Peninsula Insurance from Eula, and all three of them retired together on July 1, 2009. Cherie had a passion for shopping and traveling. She traveled all over the world for many years. Her annual trips to Palm Springs with her best girlfriends were always her favorite. She loved the beach and the mountains and going anywhere that involved a long car or train ride. Cherie's boundless energy and zest for life allowed her to be a full time career woman and a full time doting mom without sacrificing time from either. Perhaps Cherie's most favorite job of all was that of grandmother. She devoted countless hours to her five grandchildren, often taking them on trips or weekend adventures. Cherie's time on earth was not a lengthy one, but it was always packed with fun, adventure, and optimism. Cherie is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Tim Boyce. Her children Kimberly (Michael) Thomas and Todd (Stephanie) Boyce as well as her sister Diane Anderson. Her five grandchildren will miss her greatly: Cole Ebel, Nicholas Boyce, Darien Thomas, Scott Boyce, and Delaynie Thomas. Cherie's many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss her as well. Cherie's favorite holiday was Christmas and her favorite hobby was gift giving. She often spent days searching for just the right personal gift for family or friends. She always set up at least two trees and spent months setting up lights and decorations. She set aside a special Santa Claus room in her home that all the children and grandchildren were allowed to visit with touching privileges. To celebrate her generosity of spirit and love of life, we are holding a celebration of her life on Saturday, November 4th at the Willamette Country Club from 1PM to 4PM. The address is 900 Country Club Place, Canby, OR 97013. Please come dressed in holiday attire to help Cherie celebrate one more Christmas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Canby Volunteer Fire Fighter Association, 221 S Pine St., Canby, OR 97013 or Alpha-1 Foundation (www.alpha1.org).
