Duane Lincoln Weeks
Jun 11, 1928 — Feb 16, 2018
Duane Lincoln Weeks passed away at Hope Village in Canby, Oregon, on February 16, 2018 after 89 well-lived years. He was surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on June 11, 1928 on Lopez Island, Washington, to Lincoln and Lenore Weeks. He carried an enduring love for Lopez, returned often, and later contributed to the development of the museum there. In 1945, Duane attended high school at Sedro Woolley in Washington State. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Washington State University in 1951 and 1961, respectively, in Agriculture Engineering and Agricultural Economics. Duane and Janice McCormick fell in love during their employment at the Washington State Agricultural Extension Services. The two married in Parma, Idaho on August 30, 1953, and remained happily married for 64 years. In October 1956, Duane and Janice welcomed their first daughter, Sue Lynn, into the world. Tricia Rae arrived in August 1959. From 1955-57, Duane proudly served with the U.S. Army in the Signal Depot in Sacramento, California. Duane’s educational background uniquely qualified him for his role as an Agricultural Extension Agent(WSC) in Olympia, Dayton, and Seattle, Washington. The family moved to Canby so Duane could help develop a mechanical berry picking machine.Shortly after that, he and Janice purchased Canby Realty Co. and they enjoyed helping many Canby residents find and sell their homes. His career culminated as an FHA Appraiser of farm and residential land. Duane followed many passions and projects throughout his life. He deeply believed in the importance of community involvement, and gave much of his time to Kiwanis and Masonic activities. In 1996, Duane and Janice were honored to be King and Queen of General Canby Days. Duane was also very proud to be on the Canby School District Administration Office Construction Oversight Committee in 2007. In his spare time, he loved bowling, golfing, and fishing. He operated a 20-acre berry farm for many years. Duane and Janice could often be found selling their famous garlic at the Farmer’s Market on Main Street in Canby. He was passionate about genealogy, and contributed significantly to his family’s knowledge of their origins. Duane enjoyed a life rich in love, and will be dearly missed by survivors: Wife, Janice Weeks; daughter, Suelynn Callahan; granddaughters Alyssa and Chelsea Callahan; brother Merrill Weeks (Sandi); and many cherished nieces, nephews, family and friends. There will be a public Memorial Service on Friday February 23, 2018 at HOPE Village Community Center from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Zion Memorial Cemetery.
