Elsie Freida Burley

Elsie Frieda Burley May 14, 1920 – May 27, 2016 Elsie Burley, 96, passed away 27, 2016 at Pheasant Pointe assisted living facility in Molalla, Oregon. She was born in Aurora, Oregon on May 14, 1920, the second of four daughters born to John and Freda Walch. Living in the area her whole life, she attended schools in Lone Elder, Macksburg and Dryland. In June 1946 she married Cecil Burley with whom she shared 56 years of married life. Together they built a house on the Burley family farm where she lived until moving to Pheasant Pointe in 2012. She maintained a large garden and orchard and enjoyed sharing produce with family and friends. Never one to be idle she spent many summer days in local berry and bean fields harvesting crops and working at local greenhouses as a trans planter for many years. Elsie enjoyed playing the accordion and used that give for over 50 years playing in the local nursing home weekly. She was a meticulous seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. Quilting was a lifetime hobby. Each child, grandchild, and great grandchild in the family received one of her quilts. She particularly appreciated all her friends at the Molalla Adult Center Quilting Group. In fact, she attended quilting time the week of her passing and recently receiving an Outstanding Quilters Award. Because of her dedication to many volunteer efforts, she was recognized as the Molalla area Senior Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2007. Elsie was charter member of the Molalla Assembly of God Church and enjoyed attending services every time the doors were open. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, and sisters, Helen Dworschak and Lois Januzzi. Elsie is survived by three sons and daughters-in-laws Dennis and Sandy of Molalla, Arnie and Bard of Tualatin, Stan and Linda of Mulino; sister Ruth Cowan of Molalla; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Special thanks goes to the caring staff at Pheasant Pointe. Graveside services will be held at Canby Zion Cemetery on Saturday, June 11 at 10 am, a luncheon at the Molalla Assembly of God Church, 217 S Molalla Ave. at 11:30 am, and a Memorial Celebration of Life Service at the Molalla Assembly of God Church at 1:00 pm.
