Hazel Elizabeth Wagner
Oct 1, 1921 — Jul 13, 2018
Hazel was born on Oct. 1, 1921 in Portland, Ore. She was the only child of Herman Joseph Gier and Elizabeth Margaret Woolslayer. She lived her formative years in California. She met Matt Wagner at a church dance in Portland when she was 19. They dated for about a year and then got married in June of 1942. They were married until his death in 2014. During Matt's military career, there was lots of travel to Europe and all over the U.S. Hazel enjoy playing golf and bridge and was a long time member of Willamette Valley Country Club. She loved sewing, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. People enjoyed listening to her share her stories and anecdotes. She sang in the choir at Our Lady of the Lake Church and was very involved, along with Matt, in many other church activities including the Knights of Columbus. Hazel was a consummate hostess and loved expanding her culinary skills. She was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Anyone who knew her, loved her and she shone with the light of God. She could feed an army and everyone was welcome in her home. Her love of life could be seen in her amazing smile and "sassy" sense of humor. She is survived by her nine children, Jim, Chuck, Barbara, Peggy, Carol, Richard, DeeDee, Joe and Cathy; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
