Henrietta Ratzloff
Oct 18, 1928 — May 27, 2016
Henrietta Ratzloff died at the age of 87 on May 27, 2016. A resident of Hope Village in Canby since 2003, she was born October 18, 1928 in Moundridge, Kansas to Magdalena Hochstetler and J. H. Christian Hingst, the youngest of 4 daughters. Henrietta lived the first 8 years in Kansas. Because of the illness and death of their mother, Henrietta and her sisters were placed in foster homes when she was 4 years old. At the age 8 an aunt and uncle (mother's side) decided to take Henrietta home to live with them in Oregon, with her father's consent. The sisters kept in touch through visits and letters. Education was in public schools in the Hubbard and Canby area. She attended the Zion Mennonite Church while growing up. Henrietta married Vernard Lee Ratzloff in Winton, California in 1950. They moved to Oregon to live 1 year later. One child was born to this union, John Phillip, in 1961. Henrietta and Vernard were divorced in 1979. Henrietta found great reward in helping others. In her professional life she worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide in a variety of settings including a hospital, nursing homes and home care in Newberg, Oregon. During retirement she often contributed to community activities and in making quilts for a Mexico mission. Family has always meant a lot and going to church and being a Christian was an important part of her life. She is survived by her son Phillip Ratzloff, and grandsons Benjamin Ratzloff and Aleksander Ratzloff.
