Maxine Yuonne Martin

Our beloved Maxine passed away to be with her Lord in the company of her loving family at Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She was born Mazine Yvonne Thompson to Harry Morris Thompson and Alice Frances Thompson (Anderson) on April 19, 1941 in Silverton, Oregon. She was the youngest of three siblings, all sisters, the eldest being Dorothy May and Eileen Marie being in the middle. Maxine came of age on a family farm south of Canby, Oregon. She was a life long member of Zoar Lutheran Church, which is where she met her husband-to-be Robert Jon Martin. She graduated from Canby High School with the class of 1959. She continued her education at Emmanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon and graduated with the class of 1962 as a Registered Nurse. She was married to Robert on October 6th, 1962 and the newlyweds soon moved from the Canby area to Klamath Falls to pursue their careers. In 1965 they relocated back to the Canby area where they settled and later started a family in 1969 with the birth of their son, Neil Michael Martin. Maxine retired from her nursing career to become a dedicated wife and mother for many years. She remained active in many roles within her neighborhood and church community, most notable as church organist, for several decades. In 1987, Maxine began a career in real estate and was very successful in her efforts. She was a great listener which helped her to identify with the needs of others and she was also a great communicator which allowed her to forge meaningful and lasting relationships with those she came into contact with. Maxine enjoyed playing the piano and organ for church services. She also enjoyed traveling; locally with her immediate family to the Oregon Coast and to Sunriver, with Robert to Maui, and with her sister Dorothy and cousin Louise for trips within the Northwest as well as some vacations from the three ladies to visit family in Norway. Among all of the many blessings in Maxine's life, her greatest joy came as the result of becoming a grandmother with the birth of her grandsons, Jonah Michael Martin in 2013. She decided to retire from real estate when Jonah was born so that she could slow down a bit and enjoy being Grammie. Words are lacking to describe how lost we are without her yet how enriched we are to have had her in our lives. She will truly be missed by all who have had the pleasure to have know her. Maxine is survived by her husband Robert; son Neil; daughter-in-law Erin Martin; grandsons Jonah and Micah (all of Canby), sister Dorothy Parrott of Eugene and many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Alice and her sister Eileen. A memorial service will be held at Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby, Oregon on Thursday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM with a luncheon immediately following. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Zoar Lutheran Church Building Fund in memory of Maxine Yvonne Martin.
