Sharon Rae Wright

Sharon Rae (Pryer) Wright, 84, passed away on July 16, 2026 in Woodburn, OR, surrounded by her children. Known for her smile, laugh and charm, Sharon had a rare gift for connecting people and making those around her feel welcomed and loved.

Sharon was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 13, 1942, to John Joseph Pryer and Velta Marie (Smith) Pryer. She received her middle name, Rae, in honor of her maternal grandfather. After her father tragically passed away in 1946, her mother remarried Harold Irven Winter in 1948. Sharon and her older sister, Sally, were raised by her mother and stepfather in Barlow, Oregon, growing up in a two-story farmhouse on ten acres: a place Sharon would often refer to as “God’s Country”.

During her time at Canby Union High School (1956-60) Sharon was highly involved. She participated in the Future Homemakers of America, Junior Red Cross, Ginger Girls, and the Girls League, serving as the League President. Her vibrant personality led to the honor of being named school princess for May Day, Homecoming, and Track Court.

Immediately following high school graduation in 1960, Sharon moved to Portland and began working for the First National Bank of Oregon. She shared an apartment with her beloved sister, Sally, until Sharon married the love of her life, James "Jim" Richard Wright, on December 4, 1965.

Together, Sharon and Jim embarked on life’s journey that took them between Barlow, Oregon; Chicago, Illinois; Half Moon Bay, California; Vancouver, Washington; and Arvada, Colorado. In 1984, they returned home to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to family, settling in Salem, Oregon to raise their family while owning/operating Electric Motor & Control Service until 2003. Sharon moved to Woodburn, OR in 2003 and quickly became an active member of Senior Estates, Woodburn Christian Church and Country Meadows Village.

Sharon lived a life defined by unconditional love for her family, friends, and adorable animals. A woman of many passions; she loved to dance, sing, knit, garden, read, chat, remodel/decorate her homes, golf/putt, listen to music and watch classic movies. Some of her happiest moments were spent visiting the Oregon Coast, going on mini-adventures, and laughing with the people she held dear. She will be remembered as patient, kind, supportive, positive and fun.

Survived by her children and grandchildren: her daughter Susi Stryker and husband Steve, along with grandkids Nathan and Elle; her son, Jason Wright and wife Christine, along with grandkids Olivia and Hendrix; and her son Jeremy Wright and wife Kristy Lombard-Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Wright (1942–2006); her father, John Joseph Pryer (1909–1946); her mother, Velta Marie (Smith) Winter (1909–2003); her stepfather, Harold Irven Winter (1909–2003); her sister, Sally Carol (Pryer) Lampert (1938–2025); and her half-brother, Delmer Harold Winter (1950–1950).
