Antonia Garcia
Sep 16, 1921 — Apr 5, 2014
Antonia “Tonie” Maria García was born and raised in Rociada, New Mexico and moved with her family to Longmont, Colorado in the 1940s. She is the last of the Maestas generation, who along with their spouses worked very hard to make a better life for their children and generations to follow.
Tonie was a proficient horseback rider. She also took pride in her culinary skills. Her family and friends enjoyed her famous tortillas, traditional New Mexico cuisine and date bread, among many favorites.
Tonie married Bennie V. García from Jemez Springs, New Mexico and had three children: Gus, Pauline and Ben. They worked hard to provide their children with the best education possible at St. John The Baptist school in Longmont.
Tonie was a devote Catholic and a faithful parishioner of St. John The Baptist church. Prayer was a big part of her life and she prayed for each of us daily. Her faith helped her overcome life’s hardships such as surviving cancer, and the loss of family members including her son and husband. She exercised by taking daily walks and enjoyed gardening, cooking and being close to her family.
During the last six years of Tonie’s life, she was in the care of her loving granddaughter, Aprilmarie, who has our heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude.
Tonie was preceded in death by her husband Bennie and her son Gus. She is survived by 9 grandchildren; Aprilmarie, Robert III, Lisa, Annette, Nina, Spencer, Gus, Fancy, Cherri, in addition to 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Tonie will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace with our Lord.
A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church followed by a burial at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
