Barbara Mendez

Barbara Mendez (79) passed away on July 30, 2026. Barbara was born in Boulder Colorado on November 12,1946 to Daniel and Estella Garcia. Barbara married Fred Mendez in 1966. They had 4 children. Fred Mendez Jr. (Melissa Mendez), Pablo Mendez, Miguel Mendez (Jamie Mendez), Jessica Mendez Wallen (Mike Wallen). She has 6 wonderful grandchildren. Caleb, Kylee, Calvin, Mason, Nova, and Elly.

Barbara grew up with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and helping others. Those were values that remained with her throughout her life. She never liked to sit still, and she took great pride in everything she did. When she wasn't working, Barbara loved to enjoy life. She could often be found out dancing, playing bingo, or making trips to Black Hawk/Central City or Vegas to try her luck. She enjoyed collecting butterflies and elephants and taking care of her plants. You could also find her outside making sure that the squirrels and rabbits were properly fed.

Above all, Barbara's greatest pride and joy was her family. Once the grandchildren were born, she happily stepped into help when needed. She loved playing and spending time with them. Whenever she cared for them, you could count on Barbara to do a load of laundry, wash the dishes, tidy up the house and have a nice meal waiting when you got home. During holiday gatherings you could count on hearing lots of laughter from her while playing card games with the family.

Barbara is survived by her brother, Maynard Garcia and her sisters, Marie Reynoso and Dolores Cardenas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Willy, Ernie, Gilbert, and Julian, and her sister Virginia, Dorthy, Irene, and Flora.

Barbara's life was defined by love, hard work, and devotion to her family. She leaves behind countless memories, and a family forever grateful for the love she gave so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Barbara’s Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday August 13th from 3-5:30 pm at the Izaak Walton Club House, 18 S Sunset St. Longmont Co. 80501. We will have a short service to begin, and the reception will follow right afterwards.
