Darlene Marie Root passed away peacefully with the love of her life by her side Russell Sumner Root. Darlene was born January 1, 1943, in Spokane Washington to Chester and Marie (Hopkins) McCartney. Darlene met her husband Russell Sumner Root on August 13, 1965, at the USO in Spokane Washington and they were married in Boise Idaho April, 1966. Darlene and Russell have two daughters Sherilyn Marie Stewart and Wendy Sumner King (Jared J). They also have 5 grandchildren Kristi Marie Stewart (Tyler), John Russell Stewart (Miranda), Sam Russell Stewart, Preston Jared King (Aundreya), Jolene Sumner King. Darlene also has 4 great grandchildren Kassandra, Sydney, Beckett and Ayla. Darlene lived in Anchorage Alaska for 4 years while Russell was stationed there and then moved to Longmont Colorado in 1971. Darlene and Russell made their home in Longmont for 25 plus years before moving to Firestone Colorado. Darlene worked for the City of Longmont (Longmont Police Department) in the 1980s and then opened up D&R Root Tax Services in the early 1990's and retired in 2021. Darlene and Russell also owned a Southwestern shop in Lyons, Colorado in the mid 1970's where they sold Indian Jewelry and other goods. Darlene loved to knit, play ping pong, bingo, fishing, camping in their RV, crafts and many other activities. Darlene enjoyed the craft shows where she had a booth at the Lyons bizarre for several years. Darlene enjoyed traveling all 50 states and 5 cruises with the love of her life Russell Sumner Root during their 60 years of marriage. Darlene received her business certificate from Spokane Community College. Darlene loved to garden and was the President of the Hoe and Hope garden club. Darlene enjoyed entering the Boulder County Fair since 1976 where she won several awards for her flower arrangements and horticulture projects. Both her daughters were also active in the Boulder County Fair and Rodeo over the years. Darlene was also a member of the D.A.R (Daughters of the American Revolution) at the Fort Vasquez Chapter in Fort Lupton Colorado. Darlene loved animals and enjoyed all her pets and especially her registered Angus. Growing up Darlene loved to play piano for the Baptist Church in Spokane and later for family and friends. Darlene brought a lot of joy to all of us over the Holidays with her music and singing. Darlene loved to bake. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to everyone. Darlene was a strong believer in the Lord and will be greatly missed. Darlene would say one day at a time. Darlene is survived by her husband Russell Sumner Root of 60 years, her daughters Sherilyn Stewart, Wendy King (JJ), grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother-in-law John Shumate of Tumwater (Olympia) Washington, nephews and nieces, cousins, uncles and Aunts. Darlene is proceeded in death by her parents Chester and Marie McCartney, her sweet and only sister Carolyn Mae Shumate, several cousins, grandparents, uncles, Aunts and beloved pets
