Evelyn Wight
Nov 15, 1932 — May 17, 2016
Evelyn Marjorie Wight, 83, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, not long after entering into hospice service at the home of her son Paul Beckman.
Born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Canada, she had a varied employment history after immigrating to the United States in the late 1940's--beginning as an executive secretary in Wichita, Kansas, and later adding more experience in the Longmont/Boulder, Colorado area, including advertising-copy writer at KLMO radio, redemption-stamp store manager, and long-time service (over 25 years) with IBM, first as an executive secretary, then a word-processing department manager, and ultimately a technical editor/writer. Other activities included membership in Longmont's Toastmistresses Club and volunteer work at Broomfield's Meals on Wheels and later at Broomfield High School library.
She was blessed with many wonderful friends who came to appreciate her sense of humor and quick wit--she always had a wise crack or a joke for any occasion and brightened the lives of others in all of her travels.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vera and Gaylord Wight; her sister, Madeline Reid; and her daughter Roberta ("Robin") Gillette. She is survived by former husband, Robert Beckman of Longmont, CO; daughter, Rhonda Beckman of Broomfield, CO; son Paul Beckman of Firestone, CO; son Mitchell Beckman of Erie, CO; son Richard Beckman of Longmont, CO; and daughter Laura Siedzick of Thornton, CO. She also leaves behind a sister Eileen Law of Littleton, CO; five grandsons (Jeremy, Scott, Eric, Sean, and Cameron); three granddaughters (Roxanne, Erin, and Amber); and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial meal for family and friends will be scheduled soon.
