Lisa K Jones
Jan 13, 1972 — Nov 5, 2017
Lisa K. Jones was born on January 13, 1972. From the cold crest of winter came a beautiful soul with the warmest of hearts. She continuously dedicated her life in the service of others. As a pastor, she led people to God; as friend, she befriended everyone who needed a hope; as a woman, she loved with passion. Lisa knew that happiness couldn’t be found in wealth and humbly worked her way through life spreading joy and good will to those who needed them.
Through an adventurous childhood, nomadically relocated from Iowa town to Iowa town, Lisa found friends in the usual places. Her relationships through school days were exciting and innocent. Friends like Jennifer, Jenifer, Jennifer, Venus, Tina, Carla, Puffett, Tasha, Erica, Rachell, Mary, Crista, and Yung would band with her, rarely in mischief but frequently in activism and service. Lisa enjoyed band, where she played the flute; speech and choir. Lisa’s friends knew her as “a person you could be silly, best friends with and there is so much to be said for someone you can completely be yourself around and she is that someone for me “. Through college and career, her unique charisma and big-hearted personality would make companions of many more who were fortunate enough to know her. She had a love for animals where dogs, her spirit animal, and kittens were objects of her affection.
Lisa’s desire to serve dominated her education. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA., and Master’s degrees from Garret Evangelical Seminary, Evanston, IL and Iliff School of Theology, Denver Co.
She loved, but never lost sight of her mission to champion for the strugglers. She served them in her career, through women’s causes and church. She served as a pastor at Sargent Community Church and Mosca, and as a counselor at Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.
Despite her selflessness and wisdom, Lisa would eventually give way to her own struggle with depression and breast cancer. Tirelessly, she fought with all her heart and soul as she did for others through her all-to-short lifetime. Beleaguered from an unending and relentless battle, she left us November 5, 2017. As a hero, her impact on us will be felt and remembered for ages. Her love for family, friends and humanity will be an inspiration and example for us to live by.
Lisa was a spiritual role model for and is survived by her nephews and nieces: Aiden, Tyler, Eric and Heidi; her cousins: Cindy, Leah, Kayla, Zach, Chrissy, Dawn, Jenny, Chris and Steven; aunts and uncles: David, Teri, Joyce, Stanley, Simmie, Cindy, Wally, and Sue; sisters-in-law: Jessica and Lori; her two brothers Mark and Mike and parents Larry and Diane.
We’ll always love you, Tweedle Bug.
