Mary Wilson

Jan 3, 1914 — Jan 3, 2013

Biography Mary Wilson was born in Little Rock, AR, one of five sisters, and graduated from Ouachita College in Arkadelphia, AR on May 27, 1940. On Nov. 07, 1943, in El Paso, TX, she married James F. Wilson of Seattle, WA. Mary worked for the El Paso School District as an administrative secretary in the assistant superintendent’s office where her insight and dedication to quality and organization were highly valued. Sandra, their only child, was born on Jan. 24, 1947. The family enjoyed long weekends and summers in the A-frame cabin that Jim built in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico. In addition to her enjoyment of the Rocky Mountains, Mary loved to read a challenging book, to hike, and to enjoy opera, classical music and ballet. On Nov. 17, 1978, Jim died. After Mary retired from the school district she moved to Boulder in 1980 to be with Sandra, her husband, Tom and their son, Matthew. Mary enjoyed challenges and was excited about this new life in Colorado and being a grandmother. She was soon employed at Overland Sheepskin and became the store’s manager where she reveled in helping her staff succeed. Later she worked at Mother Goose Down on the mall. In all her endeavors she told employers and others that her kids and grandson came first; to her credit, they always agreed to this. Mary treasured caring for Matthew, and theirs was a very close relationship. After Tom and Sandra moved to Longmont, Mary followed. In time, Mary became a resident at Hover Independent Living and subsequently at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living where she passed away on Jan. 02, 2013, on the 365th day of her 98th year. She is survived by her sister, Jane Bale; her daughter, Sandra and son-in-law, Tom Ames; her grandson, Matthew Ames and his wife Ada Ames-Corral; and her great-grandchildren, Orlando, Alina, and Carla. There will be a memorial celebration of Mary’s life at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living, 1380 Charles Dr., Longmont, on Jan. 23, 2013 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Mary’s name to Beatrice Hover Assisted Living and/or HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
