Rose Zapf
Jan 19, 1916 — May 26, 2017
Rose Caroline Zapf 101, of Hygiene passed away May 26, 2017 at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. Rose, the first child of six children, was born to Emil Schweger and Agnes Vogl Schweger on a farm east of Lafayette, Co., January 19, 1916. She attended school and helped with the family farming in this area and in 1928 moved with her family to another farming area in what is now Lakewood. She attended school in Lakewood and at 17 went to work in Denver for the Great Western Sugar Company making cloth sugar bags.
On April 3, 1937 Rose married Henry Zapf in Edgewater Co. and in 1940 they moved to a small farm west of Hygiene, Co., which has been the family homestead since. Rose has provided stimulus, harmony and hospitality for her family, relatives, neighbors, the milk cows, the chickens, the occasional vagrant Humming Birds and Blue Herons and all beneficial plants and critters seeking haven on the farm.
Rose was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Longmont, Co. for 77 years and the St. John's Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening, canning and providing relatives and neighbors with fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden and eggs from some of the original free-range chickens. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards and occasionally challenging a slot machine at a casino.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Zapf; her father, Emil Schweger; her mother, Agnes Schweger; her brothers, Paul, Art and Bill Schweger and her sisters, Irene
Tickey and Mary Purser.
She is survived by her children Ruth Sapp, Jim Zapf and Tom Zapf; Grandsons Rick Sapp and George Sapp and numerous nieces and nephews.
