Betty Faye Phillips, age 88 of Church Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 27, 2026. Betty was born on July 5, 1938, in Surgoinsville, TN to William and Lissie Manis. On December 1, 1956, Betty married her best friend and love of her life, Kenneth Phillips. Together, they served the Lord and raised a family together, and after 57 years of a beautiful marriage, Kenneth preceded her in death in February of 2014.
Betty loved her family and the Lord. She was a long-time member of Longs Bend Baptist Church, and she found peace in singing praises to her Lord and Savior.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Kenneth Phillips; infant daughter, Edith Christine Phillips; and several brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Nathan Phillips (Shirley), Daniel Phillips (Jenny), and Donald Phillips (Joanna); five daughters, Cathy Walters, Reta Mellons (Terry), Becky Eye (Keith), Joyce Hernandez (Francisco), and Sharon McMurray (Larry); grandchildren, Bridget Kelly, Matthew Walters (Shannon), Christy Miller (Tim), Mary Caldwell (Stephen), Martha Smith (Rick), Esther Walters, Phillip Walters, Debrah Knable (Matt), Audrea Coffey (Derek), Hannah Dean, Elisabeth Eye-Rohr, Timothy Eye, Michelle Tipton (Jamie), Bethany McMurray, Laree McMurray, Christina Fields (Matthew), Jonathan Phillips (Billie), Rachel Phillips, Jessica Mullins (Jason), Caroline Paredes (Josnny), Emily Gibson (Josh), Jeremiah Phillips, Shyanne Phillips (Langston), Tyler Phillips, Maddy Phillips, Seth Phillips (Stephanie), Julie Phillips, Megan Trowbridge (Noah), Benjamin Phillips (Maggie), Caleb Phillips (girlfriend, Bri), and Tyler Phillips; great grandchildren, -David, Luke, Rebecca, and John Caldwell-, Amelia Kelly, -Logan, Rudy, Noah, and Emma Walters-, River Walters, -Abigail and Lily Dean-, Hudson Tipton, -Jonathan and Jordan Sosa-, Leah Rutledge (Mat), Ethan Fields (Olivia), -Jacob, Ruth, and Lydia Phillips-, -Clara, Lila, and Dahlia Paredes, Scarlett Phillips, Lorelai Davide, -Thea and Taliyah Trowbridge, and one on the way, Kobe Byrd; great-great grandchild, Mavrick Rutledge, and one on the way, Charlotte Rutledge; many others who called Betty "Mamaw"; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
The family will receive friends at Carter Trent Funeral Home Church Hill on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A going home service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastors Daniel Phillips, Danny Sykes and Johnny Gibson officiating. Special music will be provided by the McMurray Brothers. A graveside service will be held at Longs Bend Cemetery on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11:00 am. Betty's family will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am on Friday.
