Surgoinsville – Elder Fred Gilreath, 82, beloved husband and father, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born in Hawkins County, TN on October 9, 1936. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from Kingsport Press in 1996. Fred pastored many churches including, Mount Mitchell, Sulfur Springs, Gutheries Gap and Liberty Chapel. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his farm and visiting friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Gilreath and Carrie Gilliam Gilreath; sisters, Kathleen Gilreath, Lena Blair and Maxine Holt; brother, Luther Gilreath.
Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gileene Anderson Gilreath; daughter, Robin Gilreath; son, Clifford Gilreath; sister, Anna Gilreath; brother, Kenneth Gilreath and wife Barbara; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill.
A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Josh Couch officiating. Music will be provided by Liberty Chapel Singers.
Burial will follow in Jenkins Chapel Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post #9754 and the TN National Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill is serving the Gilreath family.
