Shirley Irene Archer

Shirley Irene Archer, age 77, of Mt. Carmel, departed this life and slipped into the arms of Jesus peacefully on Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2019 with her family by her side, following a brief illness. She resided most of her life in Church Hill and retired from the Hawkins County School System after working in school cafeterias for 30 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend; she was loved by everyone who knew her. She loved to attend Higher Ground Baptist Church but when not able she faithfully watched their live stream. She got the most enjoyment out of pampering her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as taking care of her many plants and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Mallie Lane; brother, Donald Lane; mother and father-in-law, James Monroe and Blanch Archer; brother-in-law, Talamadge Archer; and niece, Paula Wyatt. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ovalee Archer; son, Tim Archer (T.J.); daughter, Tina Riner (Buck); grandchildren, Natasha Marsha (Eric), Dillon Dye (Shyanne), Erin Gregory (Will), Pam Elam (Jack) and David Jennings; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Noah Hall, Gavin and Ethan Thomas, Tonya Birchfield (Thomas), Joshua Hite, Darby Gregory, Conrad and Claire Gregory, Deanna Jennings and Brandy Alexander; sisters, Wilma Tipton (John), Janice Jennings (Paul) and Mildred Clonce (Mark); brothers, Dewey Lane, Jr. and Bill Lane (Barbara); several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm in the chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
