Allie Guy Dykes

"The sun is warm. The grass is green." (Junior Dykes) KINGSPORT - Allie Guy (Junior) Dykes, Jr., 69, originally from the Long Island community of Kingsport, and in later years on Princeton Road in the Glen Alpine community of Sullivan Gardens, went to be with Jesus and was reunited with his wife Billie Sue on Friday afternoon (April 24, 2015) at his home due to age-related causes. Junior was born on July 17, 1945, in Kingsport, Tenn., and attended Sullivan High School. He was a local musician, singing and playing the guitar as a solo artist and in groups such as Cross Country And Company, Purple Passion, Midnight Magic, and Distant Thunder. He also played the banjo and piano. He played music with his friend Jim Bishop most of his life. Junior was also known as "Allie Cat". He worked at several grocery stores in Kingsport, including Leeper's, Giant, Oakwood, Ingle's, Food Country U.S.A., and The Alpine Market. He loved Jesus, which is all that ultimately matters. He was a loving husband and Dad. Junior was preceded in death by his father and mother, Guy and Ida: Allie Guy Dykes, Sr. and Ida Luvine Crawford Dykes; his wife who he married on Dec. 13, 1965, Billie Sue Tomlinson Dykes, in 2008; a brother, Ellis Edward (Pete) Dykes, Sr. and wife Eula Lois King Dykes Massey; a nephew, Ellis Edward Dykes, Jr.; great-nephews James Montgomery Dykes and Samuel Peter Dykes; great-niece Connie Marie Tomlinson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fugate and Frances Mae Robbins Tomlinson; brothers-in-law Charles Arthur Tomlinson, Larry Jay Tomlinson, Donald Clayton Ehlers, and Gerald Eugene Carden; and an infant sister-in-law Vena Tomlinson. Surviving Mr. Dykes are his son, Larry Wayne Dykes and wife Lori Renee Hamilton Dykes, Boones Creek; brother-in-law, Edward Paul Tomlinson, Sullivan Gardens; sisters-in-law, Norma Christine Robinson Tomlinson, Sullivan Gardens, Shirley Temple Tomlinson Ehlers Willis and husband Richard, Johnson City, Sylvia Tomlinson Carden, Cartersville, Ga., June Tomlinson Sutherland and husband Russell, Gray; Jewell Dean Tomlinson Phillips, Mount Carmel; many nieces and nephews; and a family friend, Charles Robin Kilgore, Kingsport. Special thanks go to Junior's caregivers, Ashley, Natasha, Amber, Crystal, Heather, Rae, Morgan, and others; along with nieces, Sandra Kay Dykes Price and Patricia Lynn (Patty) Dykes Bragg; and a cousin, Martha Ellen Dykes Willis and husband Tommy. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, to remember Junior from 2 till 6 p.m. Music will be provided by Ralph Gamble.
