Betty Jo Moore
November 13, 1935 — July 4, 2025
II Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
Betty Jo (Prillhart) Moore, 89, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord on Friday July 4, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living.
Mrs. Moore was born in Scott County, Virginia on November 13, 1935, daughter of James D. and Rosa M. (McCann) Prillhart. She graduated from Lynn View High School in 1953. She enjoyed meeting with her fellow graduate students and their spouses several times a year until their 60th class reunion.
She considered it an honor to take care of her younger siblings as the oldest sister, and then later in life, her elderly parents. As her own family grew older, she went to work at Montgomery Wards and helped open Belk’s Department Store at Fort Henry Mall and worked as Division Manager until her retirement in 1997.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verl Moore; sisters, Mary Darlene Prillhart and Anna Lee Lemonds; brothers, Jay Norman Prillhart, Freddie Prillhart, Randall Prillhart and Homer Prillhart; brother-in-law, John Bell; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Phillips.
Mrs. Moore survived by her sons, David Phillips and wife, Becky, of Mansfield, TX, Donald Phillips and wife, Catherine, of Greensboro, GA; daughter, Donna (Moore) Prillhart and husband, Roger, of Stockbridge, GA; sister, Brenda Bell of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Prillhart of Kingsport, TN; seven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday July 8, 2025, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Sandy Dade officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
The family gives special thanks to the staff members at Brookdale Senior Living and Amedisys Hospice Services for her care. A very special thank you from the family goes to Sandy and Ann Dade and Charlie Ball for looking after our mother.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Moore family.
