Charles Melvin Payne

Charles Melvin Payne, age 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Kingsport, TN, to the late Charles Lester and Mary Kate Tunnell Payne.

Charles served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran. He was a simple man; he enjoyed fishing and working around his house. Charles loved to read his Bible and was proud to have read through it many times.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sylvia Payne; and five sisters.

Those left to cherish Charles' memory are his son, Timothy Payne (Cynthia); daughter, Terry Payne; granddaughters, Tiffany, Natasha, and Mariah; and great grandchildren, Caden and Bryson.

Charles will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Carter-Trent, Kingsport is serving the Payne family.
