Charlie W Dean

Charlie William Dean, 73, of Nickelsville went to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Nickelsville, VA and moved to Kingsport in 1980 at which time he worked at the Kingsport Press for over 37 years. He returned to Scott County in 2006.Charlie was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Mountain City. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved going to the beach, sitting on the porch during the summer, and spending time with family and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dean; parents, E.V. and Kate Dean; brother, Doug Dean; sister, Lois McMurray. Survivors include his sons, Tony Dean, Clifford Dean and wife Faith; daughter, Janet Fields and husband Donnie; grandchildren, Karlee Beth Dean, Amanda Fields, Ashley Famiano and husband Brian; Adam and Kandace Fields; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronnie Dean and wife Wilma, Doyle Dean and wife Judy, Junior Dean and wife Sherry; sisters, Christine Saul, Mary Sluss and husband Mack; all of his grand fur babies; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Scott County Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm. A funeral service will follow in the chapel with Rev. G.W. White officiating. Music will be provided by Stevie and Flo Minton. The family will also receive friends anytime at his residence. A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, with David Dean, Adam Fields, Tommy Summey, Roger Sluss, Kenneth Sluss, Johnny Summey, Jeff "Cotton" Castle, Justin Meade, Freddie Saul serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15pm to go in procession to the cemetery.
