Chester Nachand Sittel Jr.

Chester N. Sittel, Jr., 77, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Ann (Hunt) Sittel of Kingsport; son, Matthew Sittel of Bellevue, NE; four grandchildren, Kevin, Chris and Emily Pichiarella of Knoxville, TN and Nathan Sittel of Bellevue, NE; and brother, Richard (Suzanne) Sittel of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Pichiarella, and parents, Chester and Norna (Ott) Sittel. Chester was born and raised in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a doctorate in chemical engineering. He was employed by Eastman Chemical Company, and retired in 1999 after more than 30 years of service. Chester was an active member of the Kingsport Lions Club since joining in March 1979. He served the Lions in many capacities during that time, including Chapter President, District 12N Secretary and Kingsport Secretary which he assumed in 1995 and held for 23 years. He was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship from Lions Clubs International in 1998. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, December 23, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, at 11:00 am at St Dominic Catholic Church (2517 N John B Dennis HWY, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660) with Father Michael Cummins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Chester’s name can be made to the Kingsport Lions Club, P.O. Box 3366, Kingsport, TN 37664 or to a charity of one’s choice. Following the funeral mass inurnment will be at St. Dominic’s columbarium Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Sittel family.
