Dewayne Bowen

Dewayne Bowen, age 86 of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after a long-term illness. Dewayne was born on August 27, 1940, in Gate City, VA to Kels and Anna Jane Bowen. Dewayne was a 1957 graduate of Gate City High School; he would have been valedictorian had they not combined Gate City and Shoemaker High Schools the year before. On August 28,1971, Dewayne married his most treasured friend, Patsy June Thacker. After 49 years of a beautiful life together and raising a family, she preceded him in death in March of 2021.

Dewayne retired from Eastman Kodak in 1993. He was also a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for 50 plus years. He was a charter member of the Kingsport Antique and Rod Club. He could often be found at rod runs and car shows with his red 1940 Ford. In his spare time, Dewayne enjoyed working crossword puzzles and avoiding bluegrass music.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Patsy June Bowen; and three brothers, Quentin Bowen, Randy Bowen, and Kels Bowen Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Bowen and wife, Susan; one grandson, Isaac Bowen; three sisters-in-law, Harmalene Thacker, Sandra Bowen, and Norma Rodgers Russell; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. A graveside will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Dewayne’s family and members of Pleasant View Baptist Church will be serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
