Dorothy Shuffler Salling
Jun 10, 1924 — Jan 11, 2018
Gate City - Dorothy S. Salling, 93, of Gate City, went home to be with her Heavenly Father and to reunite with the love of her life of 72 years, Rev. Wrightly Salling.
Dorothy was the epitome of a pastor's wife. She attended church services, revivals, jubilees, and camp meetings alongside her husband. Always a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed by all that loved her. She was a former member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and was a current member of Oak Glen Baptist Church before her passing. She loved to sew; she especially loved to put up vegetables by canning and freezing. She prepared many meals for people in need including the sick and shut-in and was very well known for her fried apple pies and her red velvet cake.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Pink and Esther Shuffler; sister, Ruth Mellons; brothers, Avery Shuffler and R.C Shuffler.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Hill and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Marquitta "Marti" Kestner and husband Drew of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandson, Caine Blais of Jacksonville, FL; along with several nieces and nephews; special friends, Doris Couch and Wrightly Allen Horne.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home.
A funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Danny Sykes officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Darnell, Rickey Summey, Peyton Starnes, Samuel Salling, Pete Barber, Mike Shuffler, and Wrightly Allen Horne. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Smith, Garney Snavely and Ronnie Gillenwater.
