Emma Lillian Bates

Emma Lillian Bates, 85, went to be with the Lord (Monday April 20, 2015) at Nova Health and Rehab. She was born in Scott County to the late William McKinley Bellamy and Stella Myrtle Peters. Ms. Emma worked at Eastman Chemical for a seven years, but left to raise her children. She then worked at Thriftway Market for 17 years. She will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful person who went out of her way to help others. In recent years, she attended Hales Chapel United Methodist Church. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennie Carl Bates; two sisters, Callie Victoria Christian and Pauline Naomi Lane. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Campbell; two sons, Ricky Bates and wife Cathy and Randy Bates and wife Nancy; five grandchildren, Angie Mullins, Jackie Mullins and fiance' Ashley Ervin, Jeremy Bates, Chris Bates and wife Mahala, Matt Bates and fiance', Chesleigh Galben; brother, William Marlin Bellamy and wife Sue and special niece, Carole Akers and special nephew, Bill Christian. Special thanks to Wilma Patrick and Rosa Williams for their faithful friendship, love and care shown to Emma all these years. Special thanks as well to the staff of Nova Health and Rehab for their care these last few months. The family will receive friends from 5 till 7:30pm Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7:30pm with Rev. G. Stephen Templeton officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am Thursday (April 23, 2015) at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Duane Scott, Payne Jones, Daniel Christian, Dwight Lane, Ronnie Shook and Steve Akers. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10am to follow in procession. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hales Chapel United Methodist Church 4481 Manville Rd, Gate City, VA 24251. Carter-Trent/ Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Bates family.
