Gary Davis
Jun 4, 1949 — Apr 29, 2016
Gary Davis, formerly of Hilton, VA and Bristol, TN, died Friday, April 29, 2016, from complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer in Germantown, TN.
He was 66 years old. He had retired one year earlier from the Risk Management Supervision Division of the FDIC, where he was a Case Manager, working with banks all across the southeastern United States. Gary was proud of his success in helping the banks in his territory through the banking crisis of 2008 and 2009.
Gary was a very talented photographer and especially loved his traveling adventures across the American West capturing the incredible beauty of that part of the country. He was also an excellent carpenter and loved remodeling projects. He was still in the process of a complete renovation of his home in Germantown, turning it into a showplace. His other loves were old cars and old Westerns, and his photo albums were full of mementos of both.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord and Carolyn Davis, and his grandparents Omar and Carrie Freeman.
He is survived by his "Aunt Doe," Gloria Sims of Hilton, Virginia and many cousins. Most of all, he leaves behind to grieve many close and special friends who enjoyed so many wonderful times and who supported and cared for him during his illness. His many coworkers at not only the Germantown office, but also from the Elizabethtown, KY and Knoxville, TN offices where he was assigned when he worked as a bank examiner, also remained close friends through the years and provided much comfort and compassion in his final days.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street in Kingsport, TN, with the service at 7 PM in the chapel. Services will be led by Rev. Mark Kilbourne of Hilton United Methodist Church, and friends or family who would like to share remembrances at the service will have the opportunity to do so.
Friends and family will gather Saturday morning, May 7, 2016, at 10 AM at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, Gary requested that donations be made to the two churches his parents attended in the area: Hilton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 10, 2869 Hilton Road, Gate City, VA 24251 or Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church, 327 W. Mary Street, Bristol, VA 24201.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Davis family.
