Geoffrey Tyree "Ty" DeVault

BLOUNTVILLE, TENNESSEE --- Geoffrey Tyree “Ty” DeVault, 52, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026. He was born and reared in Kingsport and was a graduate of both Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State University where he was active in the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. While his formal education was in Environmental Health, his passion was woodworking, and he spent most of his life working as a skilled carpenter creating fine cabinetry, mantles, stairwells, and the like, in scores of homes and businesses in the Tri-City area. In his earlier years he enjoyed snorkeling and scuba diving and was an avid bicyclist. His travels in those days took him to the British Isles including Ireland where he kissed the Blarney Stone, the Virgin Islands where he swam with barracudas, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Canada among other locales. He loved music and was a member of the famous D-B Show Choir participating in performances in Chicago, at Disneyworld, and elsewhere. Since the age of four Ty was a type 1 diabetic enduring insulin injections daily during 48 of his 52 years. After he was unable to participate in more athletic pursuits, he enjoyed attending country and rock concerts throughout the Southeast.

Ty was preceded in death by his mother Bernice “Nicie” DeVault.

He is survived by his father, George E. DeVault, Jr.; his brother, George E. “Trey” DeVault, III, and wife Sherri; nephew Bradley Alexander “Xander” DeVault; and niece Hannah Patterson and husband John.

A private service will be held for his immediate family.

Visitation for Ty’s friends and extended family will be Saturday, September 5, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Carter-Trent Funeral home in Kingsport.
