Harold L. Henderson

Harold L. Henderson Jr., 83 of Kingsport, TN (formerly of Wooster, AR) passed peacefully on Good Friday, April 3, 2026. Harold was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, mentor and friend to many. Born and raised in central Arkansas, Harold graduated from Mablevale High School in 1960 and The University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1965. In 1966, he married his college sweetheart, Nancy, and went on to serve his country as a Naval Intelligence Officer. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1973 with the ranking of Lieutenant Commander. After many years in the corporate world, he retired from Merrill Lynch in 1992 as a First Vice President. As an accomplished tennis player, he then embarked on a second career as a tennis coach. Harold served as head Men’s and Women’s Tennis coach at Hendrix College until his retirement in 2018. He also was instrumental in building the tennis community in Conway and central Arkansas through private coaching and serving with the Arkansas Tennis Association. He was a faithful Christian and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Conway, AR.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. Henderson Sr. and Madine of Vilonia, AR; in-laws, Ernest and Virginia Biery, of North Little Rock; and son-in-law, John Sanders of Kingsport, TN.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy Henderson; son, Bryan Henderson and wife Mille of Johnson City, TN; daughter, Heather Sanders of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Lauren (Sanders) Clark and husband Tanner, and Kristen Sanders, all of Kingsport, Juliana (Henderson) Davison and husband Jake of Johnson City, TN, Brenna, Austin, and Collin Henderson of Johnson City, TN; and his great grandson, Bennett Davison. Harold is also survived by his brother, Dennis Henderson and wife Becki of Maumelle, AR; sister, Denise Stanton and husband Dr. Mike Stanton of Conway; sister in law, Rosemary Wilson of North Little Rock; nephews, Jared Henderson (Melanie), Luke Stanton, Zach Stanton (Molly), Spencer Stanton (Ashley), Caleb Stanton (Shannon), Isaac Stanton (Evie) Gabe Stanton (Hannah), Silas Stanton, Eli Stanton, Matthew Wilson, Richard Wilson (Luisa); along with many great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and tennis students that brought joy to his life.
The family is honoring Harold’s life with a memorial service on Sunday, September 27. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm in the Mills Library, Hendrix College. The service will follow at 3:00 at Greene Chapel (next door to Mills Library), 1600 Washington Ave, Conway AR.
