Jackie Tate Jones

Jackie Tate Jones - One day in May, a beautiful little girl was born to the late Kyle and Sallie Houseright Tate in Scott County, VA. She spent her childhood at the family sawmill and playing in the mountains of Yuma, VA. She grew up attending Cleveland School where she loved playing basketball. Jackie moved to Kingsport and, at 19, married Joe K. Jones. She and Joe spent many years square dancing and round dancing. She worked at Tennessee Eastman. Jackie made many friends teaching water aerobics at Gold Star Fitness for 24 years. She attended Harmony Presbyterian Church for 75 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joe K. Jones; brothers, Worley Clinton Tate and John Kyle Tate, Jr.; sister, Shirley Tate Kilgore.

She is survived by her daughter, JoEtta (Robert) Vanover; son, Rodger K. Jones; granddaughters, Cassie (Jonathan) Price and Jessica (Mark) Hollomon; sisters, Betty Quillen and Janice Jennings, as well as several nieces and nephews; special friend, Nina Jones.

The family would like to extend a very special heartfelt thank you to family and caregiver, Jean Culbertson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Layton Bentley officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50pm.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
