James K. Byrd 86, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2024. He served his country in the Army National Guard. James worked for Eastman Chemical Company for 27 years before his retirement in 1993. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed UT sports. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Allie and Gussie Byrd; son, Barry Byrd; brother, Rev. Joe, Allie Jr., Bill , Donald , and Johnny Byrd; sister, Faye Porter.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Everhart and husband Conrad; son, Brian Byrd and wife Melanie; granddaughters, Holly Fox, Brianna Compton, Hannah Hite, and Hope Everhart; grandson, Brandon Byrd; great-grandchildren, Connor Fox, Barron Hite, and Ember Compton; along with several special nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Asbury Steadman Hills and his neighbors for their loving care.
