James Taylor, Jr.
Nov 17, 1927 — Nov 2, 2018
James Taylor Jr., 90, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2018. Born in Russell County, VA on November 17, 1927, he was the last surviving sibling of nine children of Lucy and James Taylor. He had resided in this area since moving here to work for Borden Mills in 1952 and later retiring from J.P. Stevens. He attended Pleasant View Baptist Church for many years and more recently, Feathers Chapel. He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Over the years, he sang in several local gospel quartets.
No words can express the gratitude and thanks to Iva Feathers, special friend and loving care giver, for her constant care. The family would also like to extend their thanks to the care given by Avalon Hospice and the prayers, love, and support of Feathers Chapel and Liberty Church.
In addition to his parents and siblings, James was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lois Phelps Taylor.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Robinson and husband, Don of Kingsport; son Gary Taylor and wife, Linne of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Brent Robinson, Kevin Robinson and wife Rachel, Whitney Taylor, and Mallory Allen and husband Andrew; four great grandchildren, Rylie Shelton, Hudson Allen, Millie Allen, and Turner Allen.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Baker and Rev. Scotty Sexton officiating. Music will be provided by the Feathers Chapel church singers. A graveside service will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
