Janice Susan Collins

Janice Susan Baker Collins, 63, passed away October 12, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center in her hometown of Johnson City, TN. Born on Christmas Day, 1951, in Dorchester, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bettie McLaughlin Baker. She was raised in Nickelsville, VA, and was a 1970 graduate of Twin Springs High School. She was an avid reader, a passionate advocate for animal adoption, and a blessing to all who knew her. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of Nickelsville United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded into rest by her only sister, Claudia Baker Sutherland, her mother-in-law, Nina Collins, and a host of other loved ones with whom we rejoice in knowing she is now reunited in the presence of our Lord. Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of thirty years, Randy Collins of Johnson City, TN; her only daughter, Ruth Ann Stallard of Kingsport, TN; three grandsons, Morgan Smith, Drew Smith, and AJ Smith of Kingsport, TN; three nieces, Calli Shell (and husband, Michael) of Wise, VA, Aubrey Collins of Nickelsville, VA, and Ana Jo Osborne of Nickelsville, VA; two nephews, Chris Sutherland of Dante, VA and Tyler Collins of Nickelsville, VA; two great-nieces, Caitlyn Shell and Natalie Shell of Wise, VA; her father-in-law, Donnie Collins of Nickelsville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Tracey Collins of Nickelsville, VA and Penny Collins of Portsmouth, VA; two brothers-in-law, Sonny Sutherland of Dante, VA and Michael Collins of Nickelsville, VA; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her very special companion, her dog, Molly. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm Thursday (October 15th, 2015) at Scott County Funeral Home. A service will follow at 7pm with Pastor Joe Barbour officiating. Music will be provided by Calli Shell. A graveside service will be conducted at 10am Friday (October 16th, 2015) at Laney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Shell, Chris Sutherland, Sonny Sutherland, Dennis Mattaliano, Michael Collins and Morgan Smith. Adam Odle is an honorary pallbearer. Those who plan to attend may meet with the family at the fiuneral home by 9am to follow in procession. In lieu of flowers, it would please the family if donations were made to your local animal shelter.
