Jewel Joan Mccurry

Jewel Joan McCurry, 85, went home to be with our Lord on March 22, 2015 at Wellmont Medical Center, Kingsport, TN after a brief illness surrounded by her children. Joan graduated from the Whitney Business College with the top honors. As she and her husband, Frank, were the owners of J. A McCurry Auto Parts, her schooling afforded her the opportunity to be the head of bookkeeper and office manager of the business. She was a preacher's wife happily performing all the duties that come with that role including teaching Sunday School. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Jonesborough, TN. She was the treasurer of the PTA at Lynn Garden Elementary when her children were in school. She was a loving, caring, nurturing mother to her children and her grandchildren. She loved doing for others. For anyone who ever visited her at her home, you know you never got out of there without eating or drinking something or packing it up to go! She will be forever missed by her family and friends and any who knew her. She was the daughter of the late Kelly Clinton Fields and Lois Culbertson Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Frank R. McCurry; daughter, Pamela E. McCurry; sister, Louise Lister; brother, Buford E. Fields. She is survived by her children, Donna L. Starnes, Belinda Hawk, and Joseph (Joey) McCurry and wife Tracy; four grandchildren, Joni Starnes Haynes, Meredith Hawk, Tyler McCurry and Michael McCurry; one great grandson, Corbin Haynes; her sister, Frances Strickler; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Lon LaForce. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday March 25, 2015 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport also anytime at her residence. A service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Keesling officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Oak Hill Memorial Park, Garden of the Good Shepherd. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am. Pallbearers will be Meredith Hawk, Tyler McCurry, Michael McCurry, Gary Fields, Kelly Wayne Strickler and Todd Yokley. Honorary pallbearers will be Corbin Haynes and Ron Hutchins. The family offers their sincere, heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center and to the Wellmont Palliative and Hospice Care staff who all took such loving and attentive care of her. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the McCurry family.
