Maude "Betty" Powers

Kingsport- Maude Elizabeth "Betty" Powers, 69, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday (May 20, 2016) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center 13 days following the loss of her beloved father. She was a lifelong resident of this area. Betty graduated from Lynn View High School in 1965 and went onto graduate from David Lipscomb College in 1969. She earned her Master's degree from ETSU and worked with the Scott County Social Services as a social worker for many years. Following her retirement, she really liked to go camping. Betty was also an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting with the Creative Artist Guild. Miss Powers enjoyed playing the dulcimer and had proudly built several dulcimers. She was a member of Northeast Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday School. She especially enjoyed coaching the puppet teams at the church helping make the teams very successful. She was preceded in death by her father on May 7, 2016, Harold Powers; maternal grandparents, Jay Gold Sparks and Cora Maude Belle Dorton Sparks; paternal grandparents, Radway Winfred Powers and Eliza Jenny Taylor Powers along with several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving mother, Madge Sparks Powers; an uncle, Joe Powers along with numerous cousins and many dear friends. Calling hours will be held on Monday (May 23, 2016) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Northeast Church of Christ or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday (May 23, 2016) at 2 p.m. at the church with Mr. Jay Cline. Mr. Val Roxby, and Mr. Tim Hall, officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Holston View Cemetery with church members serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Church of Christ, 2217 Beechnut Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Powers family.
