Reyta Smith

Reyta Smith, Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, after having celebrated her 90th birthday with family on July 17. She was born to Parvin and Minnie Smith in Hawkins County where she was a lifetime resident. Reyta was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church, Church Hill. She was a graduate of ETSU, and went on to teach in the Hawkins County School System for 35 years, her last placement being at Church Hill Elementary School. Reyta was a member of the Lions Club where she enjoyed giving vision exams to her community and participating in their fundraisers. She was a loving aunt, cousin, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brother Billy Smith and sister-in-law Jean Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her nephew Scott and wife Jamie Sue Smith; great-nephews Dr. Tyler Smith and fiancée Dr. Karla Moriel and Riley and wife Taryn Smith; as well as a host of cousins and friends.

A visitation of family and friends will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 1 pm to 2 pm with service to follow with Pastor Neil Lane officiating. Internment to follow at Goshen Valley Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
