Robert "Bob" King
Apr 28, 1944 — Jun 12, 2016
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith"
II Timothy 4:7
Robert L. King "Bob", 72, of Kingsport entered into his heavenly home, Sunday, June 12, 2016.
Born in Lebanon, VA, he was the son of the late Emmit Brice and Inalee Combs King. He retired from The Kingsport Press after 44 years of service. Just two short years after retiring he suffered a massive heart attack which started his long battle. Eight months later, against all odds, he was nothing short of a miracle and made a comeback of six years with the help of his daughter "Sissy" and sidekick, Cubby, his yorkie that he loved dearly. He had always been a hard worker and a family provider. Bob AKA "Jebidiah," was an avid motorcycle rider and Harley Davidson enthusiast. He had many hobbies including coon hunting and riding horses. He was a people person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed telling stories to anyone who would listen. Most of his stories started with, "Back in my day" or "Back in 1946."
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two precious sons, who he is no doubt celebrating with now after 16 years of separation, Derrick and Bryan King and a brother, Elmer King.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mitsey Lee King AKA Gertrude, of the home; his baby girl that treasured the last six years of caring for her Daddy, Missy King Jones and husband Mark; grandson and apple of his eye, Josh Frye; sister, Frankie King Adams, all of Kingsport; special son-in-law, Mark Frye (Josh's Dad); best friend for over 50 years that he thought of as a brother, Monte Carl Carty and special caregiver, Elizabeth Finch "Beth" that went above and beyond to care for Bob.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to; Center Pointe, Dr. Ina Kay Bone, Dr. Lucinda Miller and her pulmonary team, his cardiologist Dr. Merrill, special friend and critical care nurse, Brittany Haines, and Select Specialty Hospital at Bristol Regional Medical Center for their extraordinary care and kindness.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, 4-6:00pm, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will immediately follow at 6:00pm with Pastor Larry Anderson officiating. Special music will be provided by Mark Jones and Lisa Newland.
