Rowena Mcdonald Brown

Dec 4, 1923 — Jun 25, 2015

Mrs. Rowena McDonald Brown went to be with her Lord on June 25, 2015 at the Wexford House, Kingsport. Born December 4, 1923 in Greene County, Tennessee, Rowena lived in Kingsport, Tennessee for over seventy years. She graduated from Baileyton High School in 1942. Upon graduation, she began work at Tennessee Eastman Corporation where she worked for forty years. On December 21, 1946, Rowena married her loving husband of forty years, Clifford Brown. With an outgoing personality, Rowena loved people and they loved her. She was known for being quick-witted and for speaking what was "on her mind." Her nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, and their friends affectionately called her "Aunt Nena." She has left all of us with many fond memories. Rowena was a committed servant at her church, Temple Baptist, where she taught young children in "Sunbeams," served in the bus ministry, visited elderly shut-ins in their homes, and sang in the choir. When she was recently asked "What advice would you give young people today?" she answered, "Go to church." In her spare time, Rowena enjoyed travelling and taking day trips to Wolf Laurel. Rowena is survived by her brother Steve McDonald (wife Brenda), sister-in-law Eula McDonald, and nephews Roger McDonald (wife Jerilyn), Jerry McDonald (wife Bonita), Scott McDonald (wife Beverly), and Jason McDonald (wife Cassie). She had several great-nephews and great-nieces who loved her. Rowena was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Brown, brother Theron "T" McDonald, father William (Bill) McDonald, mother Sanna White McDonald, and stepmother Inez Doty McDonald. A service to celebrate Rowena's life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 2 pm at Temple Baptist Church, 2200 Memorial Court, Kingsport, Tennessee. The family will receive friends at the church before the service at 1 to 2 pm. Dr. Scott Young, Senior Pastor of Temple Baptist Church, will officiate. A grave-side service will follow at East Lawn Cemetery, Kingsport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Brown family.
