Ruby Faye Calhoun Nelms, age 90, left this earth on October 3, 2025 to join her husband, Rev. Ed Nelms; her son Joel; her daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Ronnie Horton; her parents Charlie Campbell and Lillie Lane Calhoun; her brothers Bascom, Bill, John, Calvin, and Bob; and her sisters Henrietta Davis, Helen Carter, Mary Carter, Dorothy Carter, Joanne Calhoun, Maggie Edna Calhoun, and Kathleen Calhoun.
She is survived by her son Terry Wendell “Pete” Nelms (Rebecca); two daughters Rhonda Arnold (Kenny); Myra Brown (Rev. Bob); daughter-in-law Robin Nelms; and former daughter-in-law and friend Linda “Sunny” Nelms, sister-in-law, Rachel Nelms. As well as 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, Maddie and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dana Coleman, Laura Denney, and Bob Neal for their never-ending love and concern for Ruby.
She will be remembered as a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She shared God’s love with a generous spirit.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:00 am at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Cemetery. The eulogy will be delivered by her grandson Shawne Brown. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
