Ruth Downey Russell Culbertson

Ruth Downey Russell Culbertson 89, of Gate City, VA passed away peacefully on January 9, 2018 at Nova Health and Rehab. She was born in Greeneville, TN on June 27, 1928 to the late Martin and Mattie Russell, Ruth was an active Girl Scout leader and member of the Scott County Republican Party. Ruth later served as the Postmaster in Weber City for almost 30 years. She was also an active member of Holston View UMC where she enjoyed volunteering in the nursery. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Dr. William "Bill" Culbertson; daughter, Vicki Anderson; brother, Robert M. "Rob" Russell. Survivors include her son; William "Chip" Culbertson and wife Robin; granddaughters, Alice Drue Culbertson, Amy Anderson Kelly and husband Lyle, and Emily Anderson; great-grandchildren, Jason Bailey and Aidia Kelly; sister-in-law, Caroline Russell; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Holston View UMC from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Wayne Hedrick officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Culbertson family.
