Sebern Fred Phelps

Sebern Fred Phelps, age 85, of the Hiltons Community, went home on Friday, October 9, 2015 peacefully at his residence. He was a member of Lynn Garden Evangelical Methodist Church and was a retiree of Mead Paper in Kingsport. He was a loving husband, father, step-father and friend. Although he was not a grandfather he had a love in his heart for all children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Janie Gibson Phelps. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jan Rose Phelps; children, Dolores Gilliam (Darrell) Donna Riner (David) and Doug Larkins (Jamie); brothers, O'Neil Phelps (Carol), Paul Phelps (Christine) and James Phelps (Geraldine); sisters, Dorothy Turner, Oneda Duncan, Wilma Phelps and Virginia Vickers (Myers);several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. The family would like to thank all the caregivers especially Cathy Puckett and Kathy Compton, who supported Mr. Phelps through his declining health. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 pm with Rev. Brian Capps and Rev. Jimmy Combs officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery. Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Phelps family.
