Venus Johnson Carrier

Venus Johnson Carrier, 93, of Kingsport, went to her heavenly home (Wednesday October 29th, 2014) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital. A native of Natural Tunnell, Va, she graduated from Rye Cove High School. She got her driver's license at the age of 53 and more recently she received her handgun carry permit. Venus had various accomplishments in her life, one being that she was one of the first female licensed EMT's in this area. She worked for several years at Nichols Department Store in Gate City. She then worked for over 40 years at Holston Valley Hospital as a medical secretary, then as a receptionist in the main concourse. A gracious soul and conscientious worker, Venus not only greeted but consoled family and friends in her role. She touched countless lives through many acts of kindness over the years. Her main focus in her life was her family and her job. She was preceded in death by her parents; Wilbur and Dona Johnson; husband Wavly Carrier; sisters, Hazel Head and Mae Lane; brother, Wright Johnson She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Margaret Lynch and husband Sherman; son, Don Carrier and wife Eva; four grandchildren, Julie Stout and husband Brian, Jeff Lynch and wife Erin, Andy Carrier and Sarah Carrier; four great grandchildren, Anna and Davy Stout and Ellle and Sophie Lynch; and several other family members and friends A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm Saturday November 1st, 2014 (46 years to the day that her mother was buried as well) at Holston View Cemetery, Dr. J. Edward Clevinger will officiate. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.
