Virgil Jewel Lane

Virgil "Papaw" Lane, of Kingsport was reunited with his mom at the gates of heaven. (Thursday June 11th, 2015) Born in Fall Branch, he has lived in this area all his life. He worked for several years at Johnson Hilliard as a sheet metal worker until he took on his favorite job as a full time papaw. A devoted husband of 58 years, he was a loving family man, father and papaw. He fathered only one child but was a father to many. He was very proud of his daughter. Virgil was a man of integrity who said what he meant and meant what he said. He was blessed with many friendships which he maintained throughout his life. Tho he was a man of few words, what he did say you could count on. He was baptized in the river along with his three grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Etta Lane; three sisters, Ruth, Opal and Mary; and three brothers, Harvey, Bill and Earl. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Lane; daughter, Tammie Presley and husband, Rick; three grandchildren, Tia Peace and husband Jonathan, Bryson Presley and Brogan Presley; three sisters, May Gregg, Ellen Dillard and husband, Bob, Goldie Booker and husband Virgil; brother, Gene Forbes and wife Patty; and several special friends, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12 till 2pm Saturday (June 13th, 2015) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. A service will follow at 2pm with Rev. Billy Gragg officiating with special words of reflection by his grandson Bryson. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rick Presley, Bryson Presley, Brogan Presley, Jonathan Peace, Mike Booker, Darrell Dillard and Charles Housewright. Honorary pallbearers are Doug Boggs, Elbert Manis, Gene Forbes and E.B. Moore.
