Ester Lois France

Ester “Lois” Phillips France, 88, of Gate City, VA, loving housewife and mother, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Ester was born on April 17, 1935 in Sullivan County, TN, a daughter of the late Edgar and Mammie (Wooten) Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson “Dee” France; infant brother, Edgar B. Phillips, Jr.; sister, Doris Phillips Jennings; her best friend, Phyllis Johnson. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Robin France Hilton and husband Wayne; sons, Tony France and wife Rebecca, Sidney France and wife Paula; grandchildren, Shawna Clark, Summer France and Nathan Hilton and wife Angel; great-grandchildren, Rylee Hilton and Ryan Clark; special nieces, Areatha Templeton and Melissa Arnold. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, June 16, 2023 at Scott County Funeral Home. Services will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Tim Wooten and Bro. Joel Wooten officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 17, 2023 at France Family Cemetery, Bellamy Tipton Rd, Gate City, VA. The family will gather at 9:15 am at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be friends and family.
